I’m still reading and doing my homework, I promise!
To prove it, I’m going to tell you about my next task. My energy-loving roommate said she would help, so I’m really excited. The goal is to find and test the energy of an aura and also to see if you can make it have more energy. I’m really excited. I almost started trying while I was sitting there at the tabling event today.
So first, Starhawk begins with a basic pendulum exercise. I have a lot of luck with the pendulum, though. It’s my go-to tool for divination, actually. Basically she has you get the pendulum to swing sunwise/clockwise (I also just learned that another word for widdershins is tuathal, but that is entirely irrelevant unless you would like to get the pendulum to swing the other way, which is a really good exercise, actually). This might take a lot of practicing, partly because you really have to sit still and partly because you do kind of have to “push” it. (Starhawk says that you can show the pendulum what to do by forcing a few swings and then trying again.)
To test the aura, Starhawk suggests you hold the pendulum above a person’s head and you both relax/ground and center (I’m planning to try the hand, because I’m less than 5 feet tall and my roommate is more than a foot taller than me…) Slowly, lower the pendulum towards the other person’s head/hand. It will begin to swing when it comes into contact with the other person’s aura. With enough practice, you can begin to feel where the aura starts.
Another method Starhawk promotes is to use your hand instead of a pendulum. Hold your hand above another person’s head and lower it until you can feel the energy of the aura.
Next, Starhawk explains how to dampen and project energy. You stand over the other person who grounds and centers and begins to channel energy through his/her head (Starhawk suggests the Tree of Life meditation combined with imagining the energy as a gushing fountain coming out of the head. I think “meh, whatever works best for you”). Then, as energy is pressed out, you test with the pendulum or hand as above. Then the other person begins to reign in the energy, as if the fountain is being smothered.
The last aura exercise is to attempt to see it. Have another person stand in front of a blank surface, either black or white. Starhawk says to relax and scan the space around the person and “you may be able to see a thin glowing line around the body.” For me, I’ve always had to “unfocus” to focus on an aura. Everything around the person goes a little fuzzy and words stop to mean things. I’ve found that during a teacher’s tangent, I can particularly test this skill. I shouldn’t, but sometimes, it just happens. I mean, they’re standing in front of a white or black board and I’m in the right state of mind. For me, the auras aren’t necessarily “thin” but sometimes if the person is in an extreme of a mood, it’s a little larger. I always see faint rainbows, sometimes not all the colors. It isn’t patchy, but rather ringed and almost always dominated by a white light.
